All parents want to be a good parent to their kids. This goes without saying. However, learning how to be a better father to your kid can prove not as easy as it sounds. You're arguably one of the most important role models in your kid's life, so you need to act as though you're aware of this fact. Follow these simple steps and you'll be well on your way to becoming father of the year!

Giving attention to your child is absolutely important. If they don't feel as though they are an important part of your life then you're jeopardizing their feelings for you in the future. Bottom line - make sure to give special attention to any kid you might have. Make sure to spend time with them, and not just any old time around the house, but make an effort to spend time outside of the confines of the every day hustle and bustle. Take them to the movies, take them to a museum - or - even better, ask them what they might want to do with you. Sons and daughters love bonding with their fathers as long as the dad can make sure to include some kid experiences throughout the bonding phase.

Whenever you have the opportunity to teach your child a life lesson, do so. You never know when they may have an opportunity to use that lesson in every day life. Your kid is ultimately going to learn through experience more quickly than any other way, but as father you are a figurehead that nobody else can claim. Your children will often look to you for advice on how to handle a situation. Make sure to always be responsive to this.

Knowing how to be a better father to your kid can also include opening up more to them and expressing your own feelings on a level that they can understand. This will do two things - one, it will help you to show your kid that you trust them. And two, and this is huge, it will help to teach your kid how to listen to someone's feelings and start to learn how they might be able to help in a positive way either though words or actions. This can be a great learning experience for both you and your child.

Education is key. You'll never be able to replace the educational system or school that your child is enrolled in, but you can have a very powerful, supplemental effect. If you happen to know a bit about what your kid is learning in school, try and participate in the learning experience with them. Some kids won't want their parents helping them to study so when this happens try and be more interactive instead of just reading over their shoulders. Come up with every day situations you can apply what they're learning to. This will make it more fun your kid and give you the opportunity to bond with them as a father.

Knowing how to be a better father to your kid can seem daunting, but just follow some of this guide and you'll do just fine.
