With thousands and thousands of online stores out there it can be hard to make yours a success. However, even though it is hard, time consuming, and challenging at times, it is not impossible. Just like with a bricks and mortar shop, the more effort you put in at the beginning the more successful your store will be.
Of course when starting, or even running your store there are lots of things which will continually help you improve sales and status. Two of these areas are continual market research and increasing how many product lines and ranges you sell. Of course these are two areas within a big picture, but without implementing them you will surely fall at the first hurdle.
Here are 5 top tips for Online Store/Shop Success:
- 1. Keep an eye on what your competitors are up to. A bit of healthy competition is good for your business, but keep an eye on what they are selling, how they are running their business and how successful they are. Compiling a SWOT analysis and Market research reports/Competitor reports at regular intervals will allow you to see exactly in black and white where and when you can improve your store/shop.
- 2. Be involved with your customers. Don't just be another faceless online store. Interact with your customers, and keep them updated. Run competitions and quizzes through your online store/business to get your customers involved and updated with what you are up to.
- 3. Market your store and shop in as many ways as you see fit. From having a Facebook page, to conducting offline market research, there are literally hundreds of ways, both low cost and effective that you can implement to increase the awareness of your store.
- 4. Under promise and over deliver. Never let customers down with slow delivery, and never promise things you know won't happen when they should. Nothing helps a business fail more spectacularly than false and empty promises.
- 5. Create a mailing list. Having a mailing list in place provides you with ways to keep in contact with customers, and keep them informed. Use your mailing list to send out e-cards, discounts, news, promotions and other special offers.
Of course, getting your online store or shop up, running and selling will be a process that will more than likely be a work in progress for many months. However, don't let this put you off. I always feel that if you have a plan for your online store/shop, that incorporates sales, marketing, finances and target markets, you will not go far wrong, and you will stay on track with what you want to achieve.
