I know that to fire your mechanic is unreal and find a mechanic expert it is almost impossible, especially in our time eras when cars are not quite fixable.

With today's current cars, anything can go wrong anytime. They are computerized assembled, and simply beyond the knowledge of our standard mechanic. The modern world of cars left him far behind from being able to grasp and be equipped.

So can you trust him? Maybe yes, but as a good advice: you need to learn how to protect your car and yourself. As more frequent than not, he doesn't want you to know what he doesn't know. However, there are several basic things, which you can do frequently to maintain the car to a better condition and thus increase your gas saving significantly.

1. Change oil every 3,000 miles and use only premium- multi-grade oil.

2. Read the car manual since what you do not know can hurt you.

3. Use the AC as less as possible and open the window instead. The engine uses extra energy to power the compressor.

4. Check the tire pressure at least once a month and keep them properly even inflated. Do it when they are cold. Warm car increase the pressure of the tire and cause for misreading meter. Don't underinflated them, otherwise it can be dangerous as well as swallow your gas. Imbalance wears the tires and you end up replacing them often. When you buy new tires, try the Radial tires. These tires have known as reducing gas.

5. Keep the filters clean which is very easy to do. Dirty filters using up gas as much as 10%.

6. Keep your trunk and back seat clean from different things. Increasing weight, cause a higher mileage and haul the engine.

7. Slow down and check your speedometer often. Pay attention to the highway sings. Traveling in high speed consume up to 20% more gas. So use a cruise control when you can, to keep steady moderate speed. If you stop for more than one minute, turn off the engine. It takes less gas to restart the car.

8. Don't overfill your tank. Overfilling can cause for a waste of gas.

9. Consider driving the car that using less gas mileage whenever possible, if you own few vehicles.

10. Plan your day in order to avoid driving in the rush hour and spend your fuel on sitting in traffic.
