Breckenridge, Colorado has a few book stores that are nestled in between other businesses, some might have a hanging sign to alert you to their presence, and others might not even look like a book store from the outside. Sometimes you just need a friendly, "Come on in" to find them, I've found that looking like a tourist isn't too hard to do in Breck.
Because Breckenridge is more of a laid-back type of town sitting at 9600 feet above sea level there's still things to do even if you're not on the slopes. Their yellow book only has 551 pages; one top left hand corner gets a nod to the book dealers in Breckenridge. Each one has its own style and you'll find something in each that you couldn't find in a large retailer.
Twenty First Century Books is a book store that's devoted to the writings and inventions of Nikola Tesla. If you've got an electrical engineer in the family or you just want to learn more about the man who once worked for Thomas Edison, then this book store is for you. It's all Tesla, books about his life, his inventions, just about everything you want to know and a lot you didn't. Ask anybody who works in the store and you'll get some great insights into the man who holds the patent for inventing the radio. They have winter and summer hours so call before you visit. Their phone number is 970-453-9293.
Hamlet's Book Shoppe is also a small little book store that sells all types of books. You can find just about anything from new fiction to cook books. Children's books are displayed a top sturdy book cases and the scent of wood and paper will make your browse a little longer than normal. Hamlet's has been a staple of Breckenridge for many years. Their phone number is 970-453-8033.
Weber's Books And Drawings Company has been in Breckenridge since 1985. They offer the best selection of books about the mountains that surround them. They carry books about Summit County and all the history that keeps this town active. You'll find mysteries, non-fiction and history books on the Rocky Mountains and if you're not sure what to choose, just ask one of the managers. They read all the books that come in so you know you'll be getting a great recommendation. Since they are more than just a book store you'll also find art supplies for those who want to sketch the beautiful mountains and posters for the collector in all of us. They have maps for those adventure seekers and calendars for those who want the beauty without the danger. One of the best places to look for books is here. Their phone number is 970-453-4723.
Another great book store that's not in Breckenridge but just ten miles north to Frisco, Colorado is The Next Page Bookstore. The population in Frisco, Colorado is 2,443 people; it's a small town as well. The Next Page Bookstore is located on "The Main Street Of The Rockies" They carry all types of books, fiction, adventure, children's and don't be surprised to see Samantha roaming the aisles, she's the bookstores family dog. The Next Page Bookstore is located next to a fitness center and that's common in Frisco, businesses share space but each one is original. They have book reading clubs and summertime story hour for kids. They have parallel parking out front and if you find a bench you can take in the scenery of the Rocky Mountains while you read. Check their business hours for the best browsing times. Their phone number is 970-668-9291.
Even though the summer months come and go in Summit County one thing stays the same, it's some of the most beautiful country you'll ever see.
