Top Vintage Clothing Stores in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York
The Epicenter of the Retro Fashion Explosion
Brooklyn, NY 11211

Fortunately, your correspondent has done the legwork and has the foot pain to show for it; a mission to track down a perfect set of vintage cloaks, one white, one black, was just the perfect excuse to chronicle the journey in black and white. Here's the cream of the crop for funky retro fashions in a neighborhood as synonymous with vintage clothing as Paris with crossaints.
(1) Beacon's Closet - 88 N 11th St
The first store I hit and it ended up being the best; if I'd known this would have the biggest selection at the best prices, I could have saved myself a lot of walking, although the article might have suffered. With three rooms of treasures, Beacon's Closet does a brisk trade both selling and buying vintage clothing in a friendly atmosphere playing good music. It's a bit of a glorious muddle in the main room, with circular racks full of garments organized by color that have been packed in just a tad too tightly, but that's all part of the fun. They also operate a Park Slope branch for those who just can't get enough.
(2) Buffalo Exchange - 504 Driggs Ave
Boasting a clublike exterior, Buffalo Exchange is actually a chain store (ssh, don't tell) but nonetheless enjoys a clientele that knows it's true to its roots. A clearer, mellower, less overwhelming space than Beacon's Closet, this might make a good first stop for those a little hestitant to dip their toe in the water among the young and beautiful.
(3) MiniMiniMarket - 218 Bedford Ave
Located right in the heart of hipster central, this small establishment isn't long on clothes, but has a great assortment of belts and other accessories to match your new old duds. It also stocks all manner of souvenirs and tchotchkes.
(4) KCDC Skateshop - 90 N 11th St
It's not the lines of clothing that attract your attention here so much as what's around them-skateboards, skateboarding gear and, oh yes, a ramp. While no one was observed using the ramp for its intended purpose on this trip, one can only assume that on occasion a customer has both permission and occasion to put on an impromptu show.
(5) Lawanna's - 155 Grand St
Recently relocated to bigger quarters from Bedford, this Western-themed establishment wins big points for super-friendly staff and a crying Elvis painting on the walls.
In any case, you're sure to find something you like in Williamsburg; it's as good a destination as you can ask for, and someone's always selling something. Sometimes even on the streets. Recommended: starting from the North and working your way down. Equally recommended: wearing comfortable shoes! Happy hunting!
