Top Ways to Market and Promote Your Business

Finally, your business is all set to go. You have your products ready, your services prepared for clients, and just a few more days until you open your own shop. First, you need to promote it. You need to let other people know your business exists, otherwise, no matter how good or unique your product is you will not succeed. For those small businesses eager to get on the map, here a few ways that can help you on your way.

Start in your immediate community. This includes your family, friends, officemates, and neighbors. You can give out free samples for starters and ask them to pass on the message to their own families, friends, and other people they know. Word of mouth us a very effective and low cost way of spreading the news around.

Give out flyers or brochures. Use your creativity and create inexpensive but well made leaflets to give out to people. Make use of colored paper to make them stand out; make your graphics and text short and simple but catchy. Remember to include your contact information and location. Crowded places like transport terminals, shopping malls, and grocery entrances are excellent places to hand out your brochures to other people.

Put up signs. This works very effectively without you having to put a lot of effort. Just make sure you put your signs where there is a constant and heavy flow of people. They will be there for everyone to see, anytime of the day, everyday of the week. Make them as eye catching as much as you can.

Make use of promotional items. Useful things like notepads, pens, t-shirts, calendars, and key chains that have your business name or logo on them are good vehicles for advertisement. Every time a person uses your give away, he or she is automatically reminded of your business. They become constant reminders as long as a person is using them.

Direct mail or telemarketing: Go old school by sending your promotional materials through mail, like those of bill inserts from credit cards, to your target market. You may have to buy or rent from other companies' mailing lists though, if you do not have your own database yet. The same goes for telemarketing. Pick up the phone, dial your potential clients' numbers, and start talking.

Join networking events. Trade fairs or seasonal bazaars are perfect ways to introduce your business, meet, and establish contacts and other potential clients. Do not expect to make much profit from these events however, as they serve more as a way to build your contact network.
