Top Websites for Getting Directions and Finding Maps

Top Three Websites for Getting Directions

Mapquest
Still one of the most familiar and popular, they have recently changed their format to make driving directions easier. Most of the time you will get to your destination a little quicker than the allotted time Mapquest gives you, but it does take into account traffic, stop lights and speed limits.

Google Maps
If you are looking for written directions, Goggle Maps can provide you with that as well as a map. It is very, very detailed, (i.e., if you have gotten to Main Street, you have gone too far), and incredibly accurate.

Yahoo! Driving Directions
I have used Yahoo! Driving directions, but usually to see if I can get a different route than Mapquest or Google when I know that there may be a better way to go. Still popular and a solid site for directions.

Top Three Sites for Mapping

Maps.com
A very legible and pleasing home page. It also has map software, map puzzles, map games, travel guides and so much more.

Mapquest
This site has been around a while, one of the first most of us used for directions and mapping. As mentioned above, they have changed their format for easier access.

National Geographic's Map Machine
The name may not be as popular for a search engine, however, most of us have heard of National Geographic and all the places they have been. A gorgeous map on their home page, with all sorts of links such as Earthpulse visual guide to trend and interactive maps.

My favorite is Mapquest, perhaps because I started with it and became comfortable with it.

I like Eric's map search! LOL I used mapquest until I got my GPS. Sometimes, it took me to my destination via really weird routes. But at least it got me there. Another great article!
