Red Dawn

While Red Dawn was not a great movie, it was a cult movie, starring the late Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen as teenagers fighting off a Soviet invasion of the USA. MGM decided to remake this, and are now having to digitally edit it prior to release.

One of the things Hollywood likes to do to avoid taking risks on new ideas and stories is to remake old, classic movies. Usually this sort of thing ends badly, with the new product being inferior to the old. But MGM has an intriguing idea to remake that 80s classic Red Dawn.

In 1984, director John Milius made Red Dawn, a film depicting the Soviet invasion of the United States and the efforts of partisans, mainly high school kids, to fight them off. Hollywood has never forgiven Milius for doing this.

'Tomorrow When the War Began' looks like an Australian version of Red Dawn, with teenage Aussies fighting a guerrilla war against an unidentified by non English speaking invading army.

This movie was made during the time of the cold war with the Soviet Union. It is basically about a what if scenario. Basically the communists invade the United States in a world war three scenario.

John Milius, the director of such classics such as Red Dawn, The Wind and the Lion, and Conan the Barbarian, has written some of the best lines in modern film. Yet, because of his political beliefs he is somewhat underappreciated.
