College Football Top 25

This is my ranking of top 25 teams heading into week 5 of the college football season. I will make a note of the teams record, the result of their previous game and who they play next. I will include teams that I think are on the verge of the top 25.

Without the undefeated teams around, yesterday's college football scores had little national stakes. LSU did survive another scare, while Nebraska was knocked off, and the Big Ten and Big 12 powers got even tighter.

This is not one of those Saturdays filled with top 25 clashes, as most of the ranked teams are big favorites today. In a day with few upset scares expected, the biggest challenge may pit Auburn against Georgia and the Cam Newton scandals.

September kept the college football top 25 orderly, while October blew the polls up. The start of November stands to be chaotic as well, with five games between top 25 teams - yet two will have a major impact on the BCS.

All October, the top teams in college football have fell apart on the road. Today, four top 10 teams get major tests on the road, as USC, Iowa, Nebraska and Ole Miss attempt to provide the biggest BCS shakeup yet.

The last two weeks have turned the college football polls around, just in time for the BCS standings to come out. Now there is a chance for a third straight week of change, with another No. 1 team facing a road test, and a major clash in the SEC.

Now that Alabama isn't ruling college football for the moment, there is finally doubt on who the top teams are. Today is the last chance for a statement before the first BCS standings come out, as Wisconsin, Texas and others look to keep the chaos going.

September was a conventional month for college football, as national contenders held off potential sleepers to stay on top. Today, Alabama, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin hope to keep that going, while Florida, Stanford and Texas want a change.

Today's slate of college football games have a few notable top 25 showdowns, especially among the SEC. But the last few weeks have done little to change the national title race early, although Arkansas, Oregon State and others can fix that today.

Most of the top 10 in college football barely broke a sweat yesterday, while all but two top 25 teams escaped scares. It wasn't a day for moving and shaking in the polls, although next week could be another matter.

Once again, fans are waiting for the first major upset of the year to alter the BCS picture. South Carolina will take their shot against Alabama, while LSU, Florida, Michigan State and Michigan can take a step into the title picture.
