President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address, laden heavily as it was with references to a "Sputnik Moment," as well as green jobs and high speed rail, has sparked some curiosity about solar shingles.

Many people like the idea of incorporating solar into their homes. The biggest issue that most people have is not the cost or the equipment, it is the look of the panels.

At first glance, solar shingles look like common asphalt shingles. The only difference is they have a deep-blue tinted surface rather than pastel-colored ones.
