The first time that I was able to see the Olympics and remember them was 1984, when I was six years old. To this day, no other set of games has been able to live up to the magic of that summer for one reason: Mary Lou Retton.

Mary Lour Retton became the first American to win the All Around Gymnastics Competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Watching this created memories that have been imprinted on the American public.
