Top-Notch Street Food Vendors Ready to Serve Minnesota Twins Fans

Shirley Norling
With the Minnesota Twins home opener scheduled for Apr. 8,2011, everyone in and around Target Field in Minneapolis is busy getting everything in order for the big day and that includes the local street food vendors. There are a number of very good street food vendors around Minneapolis's Target Field Stadium that are anxiously waiting to serve some of their best grub to all those Minnesota Twins fans, who have just within the past year, been able to enjoy a good outdoor Twins baseball game again.

"Cooking" inside a tiny mobile kitchen on a hot Minnesota Aug. afternoon may not sound that appealing to some, but apparently it's not that bad of a gig for these top-notch street food vendors. Weather it's a Nathan's Ballpark hot dog, a turkey drumstick, or a cool drink, you're sure to be able to find exactly what you're looking for when you're on your way to a Minnesota Twins Baseball Game. Here is a list of some of the best street food vendors outside of Target Field.

1. Chef Shack, 5th & Hennepin, Minneapolis: The menu is constantly changing at the Chef Shack. If you're looking for something a bit different, the Chef Shack owners have several new Thai and Indian Curries for you to try. I especially like this street food vendor because of the variety of food they offer. Their fresh handmade fare includes items such as spicy goat-meat stew, tacos stuffed with black beans, pickled cabbage and Indian-Spiced mini donuts. They're a very good choice for a nice lunch before a Minnesota Twins Baseball Game.

2. Turkey To Go, 6th & Hennepin, Minneapolis: This street food vendor has been a staple at the Minnesota State Fair for over 50 years. He now operates near Target Field before and after the Twins games. He has the best turkey sandwich around, which is similar to a succulent, tasty pulled pork sandwich. It was always one of the hottest items at the Minnesota State Fair, where I got to enjoy it, first. He also serves "made from scratch" ice-cream sandwiches with choice of flavors sandwiched between your favorite cookies. Another specialty is roasted turkey drumsticks, yum.

3. Cruzn Cafe, 4th St. & Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis: The Cruzn Cafe teamed with Darby O" Ragens, which is a favorite spot for Twins fans and within walking distance of Target Field, to serve up some baseball game favorites like Nathans hot dogs and Famous Amos Cookies. You may want to give the "dirty dog", a hot dog topped with queso, pulled chicken or pork, bar-b-que sauce and a sliced jalapeno, a try. A number of cool refreshing drinks like Italian Espressos, sun-brewed iced tea and some wonderful smoothies, which I especially like, are also available at the Cruzn Cafe. Check out their website for their complete menu,wwwcruzncafemn.com.

4. She Royal, 7th St. & Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis: The Ethiopian descent street food vendor owner of She Royal offers a slightly different flair to street food vending. Her menu consists of America, East African, Mediterranean and Asian Cusine. A variety of specials on her menu include steak burgers, fried chicken, veggie sampler(my favorite), greek gyro etc. She Royal was conceived to cater to a growing number of coffee enthusiasts that are fair trade conscious. Check out She Royal.com, for more information on this "bit out of the ordinary", vendor.

This is a great guide to the vendors, and should come in handy to anyone attending a game at Target Field.
