Tornadoes in North Carolina Cause Injuries, Damages, Nightmares

Pieces of Eight, or Thirty

Lori Lane
Between golf ball size hail, straight line winds, broken shards of flying glass, trees toppled, homes damaged, businesses damaged, residents running for their lives, and injuries, the tornadoes in North Carolina made their mark.

The tornadoes ripped through North Carolina last night. In the middle of the night the storms cracked thunder followed by bolts of white lightning. Here's what went down when our household members tossed and turned in beds hoping the noise would stop.

Person County had the unfortunate visit from a 75 - 80 mph tornado. Not the guest they were hoping for. But this company stemmed from storms located from Charlotte, the Triad, on it's way through Person County.

At Linwood in Davidson County a trailer park community ran for their lives when the wind destroyed their homes. The residents made it out alive.

Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties off Interstate 85 were hit yesterday evening. A Gaston video camera caught the trees falling during shifting winds as viewed through News 14 Carolina. It took mere seconds for multiple trees to tumble to the ground.

The one thing I took notice was the tree snaps. The wood was healthy, thick, not saturated, with a round base. The wind was strong enough to snap close to the trunks.

Halifax Regional Hospital also took a hit when a tree fell on top of it near the emergency room. Sounds like a natural disaster movie, right?

Residents assure that it was all too real, and unreal on many levels according to Wral.

As the North Carolina skies are blue with fluffy white clouds slowly drifting by North Carolina clean up efforts are in full force. And the best news the weather could pass residents today is that they can sleep well tonight.

No storms are in the forecast during the next couple of days. North Carolina is said to reach 80 degree temperatures this upcoming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

You can view one of the tornadoes through this YouTube video, rated-R for language.

It's that time of the season when tornadoes in North Carolina tend to occur as does across the country. Do you have your tornado kit prepared?

We had straight line winds where I actually thought I heard the roof move off the house. No rain last night but we had a few inches during the day...I sent it all your direction.
