Toro Recalls Power Clear Snowblowers and Recycler Mowers: Fire or Burn Hazard (4/26/11)

Consumers Should Obtain a Free Repair Kit

There has been a recall by The Toro Company, of Bloomington, Minn. of Toro Power Clear Snowblowers and Toro 20" Recycler Mowers due to a fire or burn hazard. The mowers were manufactured in Mexico, and the snowblowers in the United States.

The snowblowers and mowers were sold at Toro dealers in the United States and Canada from September 2009-March 2011.

Number of recalled units involved:

Snowblowers: About 18,000 in the U.S. and 5,000 in Canada.
Mowers: About 6,000 in the U.S. and 200 in Canada.

The carburetors on both products develop fuel leaks and can ignite when exposed to an ignition source, posing a fire or burn hazard. There have been about 500 reports of carburetor leaks. There were no reports of fire or injury.

Consumers should immediately stop using the products and contact a Toro Service Dealer for a free repair.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is still interested in receiving incident or injury reports that are either directly related to this product recall or involve a different hazard with the same product. Please tell them about it by visiting www.saferproducts.gov.

The CPSC reminds consumers that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

    Get a Honda. They'll blow snow for decades, no problem.
