Toshiba Vs. Sanyo Brand TV's

A Consumer's Personal View of Their Experience with These Brands

My husband wanted a bigger TV. The local furniture store, Morris Home Furniture, was having a sale so we decided to see what was available. We loaded the family up and went shopping. After looking at several brands we decided on a 42 inch Toshiba and a new entertainment center that would hold our new acquisition.

We took our TV home and were very happy with our purchase until just short of having it a year the sound quit. We pulled out our owner's manual to look for a telephone number to the company or a repair facility. There was no number to be found anywhere in the manual. We had to call Morris Home Furniture to get a number for a repair facility for our TV. Then there was no repair facility near our area, so I contacted the nearest facility. Long story short it took two to three weeks to repair our TV and cost us two hundred dollars, the TV was less than a year old at this time. We got our TV back from the repair man and continued to use it. Not quite a year later we were watching TV and the picture went black, no warning or reason it just went. After putting two hundred dollars into a year old TV I was not going to invest any more money in this electronic, It was not even two years out from its manufacture date.

After a very sour experience with Toshiba I was not about to purchase another of their products. I'm not sure about anyone else but if I spend a large amount of money on an item, I expect it to last. I don't purchase extended warranties on new items. If I spend that much money I expect it to last more that a year without falling apart.

We were now left with the need for a new TV. We went to Wal-mart this time and found a 50 inch Sanyo. My husband fell in love with this TV, he had to have it. We made our purchase and brought it home. It has been wonderful. No problems, easy find 800 numbers for customer care issues, works great with our cable and high def electronics. Beautiful picture and sound quality, only thing I wish it had more of are AV jacks for attaching electronics. It has been a wonderful addition to our household and I would highly recommend the Sanyo for anyone looking for a new TV.

* Disclaimer* this article is in no way to reflect badly on Morris or Wal-mart. Both companies were very helpful in our purchase and after the sale. Morris was very gracious about finding us a number to call to get us help repairing our TV, and given the need for an item they carry I would shop either store without question
