Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal

A Product Review

It's great getting things for free, so I was happy when I found a sample box of "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" waiting for me in my mailbox. The sample box is a miniature of the full sized version: a soft lilac fading into white with a broad purple stripe bearing the red Total logo. Beneath this, a purple bowl of "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" looked pretty inviting.

"Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" was very good. The flakes alone were good, but different than the fluffy little corn flakes we've become used to. These flakes are denser and a bit grainy. (Slightly reminiscent of the bran flakes I ate as a kid when it was the only cereal left in the house. Good, but not "more, please" good.) What makes this cereal even better are the little additions and "crunchy fruit flavored clusters". The oats in these give "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal " a nice blend of flavors and textures. The blueberry really shines through here. The pomegranate is less pronounced, but pomegranates have a subtler flavor to begin with so that wasn't surprising.

Like many breakfast cereals "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" is low in fat (3%) and high in nutrition! In each 1 cup serving "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" you get a good dose of many things. You get 10 percent of your daily recommendation of vitamin A, Phosphorus, and Magnesium and 25 percent of your daily recommendation of Vitamin D. And true to it's box-front claim of "100% nutrition" you get 100% percent of your daily recommendation of Calcium, Iron, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin C and Zinc.

"Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" has less sugar than some of the other Total Cereals, at 11 grams per serving. This is still nearly as much as some kid's cereals that are considered sugary. (Cocoa Puffs has 12 grams). My other disappointment was that the ingredients listed neither blueberries nor pomegranates. I knew the box said natural and artificial flavors, but now I wonder how much natural flavoring there really is. A lot of companies have jumped on the pomegranate bandwagon lately, because of the great nutritional value they have. (They are high in antioxidants.) However, "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" seems to be using that as a means of selling a product, rather than improving its health value.

That being said, "Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal" is still a product that tastes great and packs in a great deal of nutrition. Having tried it, I would recommend it, and will be buying a bigger box to enjoy very soon.

Enjoy!

Swell cereal NO blueberries and NO pomegranates. Sounds like deception to me.

Well written review. Everything these days seems to have blueberry, pomegrante, or acai in it. Personally, I love blueberries and just might try this cereal because of your review.
