During the course of the game players must search different islands for relics, such as the Tear of Heaven. Searching is done by scouts of the Hawk Tribe, which are first accessible when using villagers to build a scouting lodge. Unlike most real time strategy games Totem Tribe doesn't allow for units to be built direct by clicking a structure and ordering it.
New units can be reached when ordering villagers when building huts, scouting lodges, barracks, and other structures. However, some buildings create units over time, such as the barracks, which create defenders for a village. As you could imagine, the inability to create units on demand in Totem Tribe is discouraging to hardcore strategy genre players.
Stages of this game are completed when an objective is completed, but as mentioned previously usually revolves around finding objects on the island. As players progress through the game the islands become increasingly challenging, keep in mind there are over 23 locations to explore.
When it comes to graphics Totem Tribe isn't a shining star, but it does hold true to most real time strategy games. Units are easily viewable, and each island is uniquely designed yet beautifully colored. Creatures roam around the islands, whether hostile or not are also graphically impressive even if they are little tribal men.
Sound effects are decent but far from impressive, but the music tracks on the other hand fit the game well. Whether players find them these music tracks catchy or not mean little, due to the ability to turn down the music volume, just like in most video games. Through the sound effects of Totem Tribe, players are even able to hear villagers pounding away with hammers.
Totem Tribe may not be for everyone, but if strategy gaming is your cup of tea then be sure to give this game a shot. From battling enemies to completing objectives by searching entire islands, Totem Tribe will surely give players many hours of entertainment. Sure, there are many features that could be better but most can be overlooked.

Post a CommentNice review. I think that the native american genre is grossly represented in video games. I am looking forward to "The Brave" when it comes out for the Wii.
