Totino's and Jeno's Frozen Pizza Recall

Janice Villa
According to a press release today November 1,2007,from General Mills, the parent company of Jeno's and Totino's pizza, a voluntary Class I recall has been made for their frozen pizzas containing pepperoni. The recall is a result of findings by state and federal authorities when investigating 21 occurrences of E. coli-related illnesses in 10 states.

These pizza products were produced in Wellston, Ohio and distributed to retail establishments nationwide. The products affected by this recall are:

Totino's Party Supreme 42800-19700
Totino's Three Meat 42800-10800
Totino's Pepperoni 42800-11400
Totino's Pepperoni 42800-92114
Totino's Classic Pepperoni 42800-11402
Totino's Pepperoni Trio 42800-72157
Totino's Party Combo 42800-11600
Totino's Combo

Jeno's Crisp'n Tasty Supreme 35300-00561
Jeno's Crisp'n Tasty Pepperoni 35300-00572
Jeno's Crisp'n Tasty Combo 35300-00576

Basically if the pizza has pepperoni or a combination of the pepperoni, then it's involved in the recall and it should be discarded immediately. General Mills recalled about 5 million frozen pizzas nationwide. These pizzas could be already in your freezer. You need to check the UPC codes on these products you may already have.

In 9 of the 21 cases, the people had reported that they had eaten Totino's or Jeno's Pizza's with pepperoni before becoming ill. The time frame was between July 20 and October 10th. All patients have fully recovered.

E.coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. Young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable to food borne disease. You should contact a physician if you think you have this illness. All people who have been diagnosed with this illness should contact the state and public health authorities.

If consumers have this product in their home you are advised to throw it away. You can get a replacement by clipping the UPC symbol from each pizza box and sending the UPC's, along with your name and address to:

Totino's / Jeno's
P.O. Box 200 - Pizza
Minneapolis, MN 55440-0200

If you have any additional questions you can call the company at (800) 949-9055.
