The grass is green and the base lines are white
The rains have all stopped, the sky is so blue
It's a beautiful day, why not play two?
The National Anthem played nice and loud
The teams take the field to the roar of the crowd
The stands they are filled with the tall and the small
They stand up and cheer when the ump yells "Play ball"
When the visiting team takes the first at bat
The crowd lets out a hiss, like an angry tom-cat
At the end of the first there isn't a score
The fans aren't concerned; they've still got eight more
The teams take their turns, trying to score
No one crosses the plate - and they've already played four
Bottom of the fifth, one out, can it be
A hard smash but no runs, thanks to the 6-4-3
The crowd starts to wonder if they should be afraid
A high fly to left, he flips down his shades
To the track, could it be over the wall
No, the left fielder comes down with the ball
With a slow steady pace the game moves along
After six no runs, no hits, nobody left on
Stretch time comes, the crowd rises as one
Two and a half left to go and the game will be done
The eighth comes and goes; the crowd's feeling the pain
Hoping for a miracle, some praying for rain
The home team needs a win, everyone knows it
The manager goes to the pen, hoping they'll close it
Bottom nine, two outs nobody on
The batter tattoos one, going, going , gone
Having such a good time seems like a sin
Especially when the home team walks off with a win

Post a CommentHave to love the game, did you know you can sponsor pages on baseballreference.com, thinking about sponsoring one for my AC page. Hmmm.
Nice job on this!
Very well-written. I don't watch baseball, however, you explained it well.
Great job, you really captured the excitement of the game.
Always hated it when the Home Late Ump screeched out... "Steeeeee-Rike Three" when my team was up! Great writing!
I can actually feel the game going on in this one! Nice job! :)
