"Touch" - A Mother's Day Poem

Laurie Meekis
As I hold my child, soothe her to sleep,
gently stroking her hair, tucking it behind her ears;
I close my eyes remembering you do the same for me.
I still feel your hand upon my hair,
feel my eyelids close heavily in slumber.
There are times I wish for those hands again,
to lull me safely into rest,
no worries, no fretting,
knowing that when I woke,
at morning's light you would be there.
Beneath my own hands, I feel my child drift off to dream,
and understand now, the power of a mother's touch.
