Tough Girl

tough Girl

Hey, Tough Girl!

Yeah, I'm talking to you.

You saunter around, always on edge, ready to pounce, if the wrong words are said.

What nobody knows, what no one can see, is that your hard exterior is merely a cover, a shield , to deflect from the heartache and pain,

of the fact that Dad is an alkie, or that today, the fridge looks anemic.

Without designer clothes, or the latest fashions, how can you be in with the crowd that is?

No matter, you say, I'm not like them anyway, nor do I aspire to be; if this is the truth of how I feel, then why am I so unhappy?

Tough girl, I see you. I mean, I really see you.

Beneath the tough veneer, you're soft and smart, and kind hearted; yearning to be free.

On the horizon, if you focus, and look deeply, the future can be, as bright and outstanding as you hope it to be.

It will not be about Dad, or a long gone clothing fad, or even the cult of personality; for you and they will join the world of endless possibility.

You can write your own ending, to a story of your making; shed the weight from your shoulders and rise like the phoenix, stand tall and victorious.

It gets brighter and better; know that this too shall pass

This is very good writing. I have known a lot of girls like this. Underneath all that exterior, they are still little girls.
