Toughest Cell Phones that Take the Most Abuse

You Don't Look so Tough

Dave Bryan
Cell phones are generally tough devices. To be considered one of the toughest, a cell phone must have greater resistance to abuse than the norm. With the bar set so high these tough cell phones should give you years of use and be able withstand the worst treatment.

Who needs an extra tough cell phone?

People who work for the police, military, and firefighters are good candidates. Active teens probably abuse their phones more than most. Whatever the case you will find the following cell phones to be the toughest of the tough.

How is cell phone toughness measured?

Cell phone toughness, or mechanical impact resistance, is measured and coded into the IP Code (International Protection Rating). The tests and code are used for many electronic devices. The IP code contains other information about the electronic device's ability to withstand other abusive factors such as dust, water, and external hazards.

The toughest phones

Sonim XP Series

The Sonim XP3 is number one on the list. Buy either the XP1, XP2, or the XP3 and you will have in your hand what is probably the world toughest cell phone on the consumer market. Added to the fact that this tough cell phone has longer battery life than other cell phones, it is built to pass military specifications. Under emergency situations this phone solves problems rather than creates them.

Samsung B2100 Xtream Edition

Style and function should have been the name of this Samsung B2100. Beside being water and dust proof it is in compliant with MIL-STD-810F mil-spec standard. This tough phone has a mobil tracker, sos message feature, and good signal strength. The addition of an FM radio and MP3 player are great touches, but having 9.5 hours talk time does hurt either.

Verizon Wireless Casio G'zOne Brigade

Casio's latest version of the GZ. This tough cell phone is mil-spec and highly rated. A nicely designed circular OLED display, a 4-row QWERTY keyboard and Push-to-Talk makes this a great phone to use.
This phone has some tough specs with 432 minute talk time, a 3.2 MP camera, 192 Meg of RAM, and many more great features.

Conclusion

One accessory that can help a cell phone withstand impact with the floor is a padded case. Make sure you a carrying your cell phone in a manner that keeps it safe and hard to fall from its location. When using a belt clip make sure you replace it when the clip no longer works well or the fabric around it becomes torn.

Thanks for this! Due to my disability, I drop my cell phone quite a bit. I'll never forget my first cell phone, a Samsung. That thing regularly took a licking and kept on ticking! I took it with me on a 144 mile march, where it was constantly being run over by people's wheelchairs when I would drop it. One day, I kid you not, it was run over by one of the police cars that escorted our group along the highway. When I retrieved it, it was perfectly okay, except for a tiny crack in the glass. I kept that cell phone for another two years!

Does this include people who drop their phone into the ranch dip that came with chicken nuggets?
Seriously . . . nicely done and informative!
