Tour Features Pink Firetrucks in Honor of Cancer Survivors
Local police and fire units are planning to escort the pink fire trucks and firefighters dressed in pink gear to the Pioneer Woman statue at 10:30 a.m.
Rumor is, even the statue will be dressed in pink.
The Pink Heals Tour was founded in Phoenix, Arizona by firefighter Dave Graybill.
He has been joined in his "Guardians of the Ribbon," the organization behind the Pink Heals Tour, by firefighters, police officers and community leaders from across the nation. They now make their way across the United States to support women in their fight against cancer and inspire men to get involved.
"It is in our nature to fight for those who have lost the ability to fight for themselves," shared Graybill. "We are asking the public for support. It will not only bring us together, but also give those who are battling this disease an overwhelming feeling of hope."
Local residents Cathy Cole and Liz Solorio contacted the organization several times and requested that Ponca City be added to the tour schedule.
Thursday's event leads into the 15th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Banquet, sponsored annually by Ponca City Soroptimist. The banquet, "A Message of Hope," will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 North Fourteenth Street.
After the quick stop in Ponca City, the parade of fire trucks will head to Tulsa for the evening. They are then scheduled to arrive in Wentzville, Missouri on Oct. 22-24.
Its off to Kansas City, Kansas on Oct. 26, North Las Vegas on Oct. 28 and Kingman Arizona on Nov. 2.
During the convoy's stops, cancer survivors are encouraged to sign the firetrucks as a tribute of their battle and or victory.

Our city has some pink taxi cabs this year. It would be nice if more people were turning stuff purple for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which also leads to death of women and children.
