History of Meeker Mansion

The owner Ezra Meeker was a pioneer and leading citizen of Puyallup Washington. He became their first mayor as well as a one-time Hop King. On one of Ezra Meeker's many hop selling trips to Europe he invited his wife Eliza Jane to come along. While in Europe Eliza Jane was presented to Queen Victoria and she became quite smitten with the elaborate lifestyle. Although content living in a log cabin, Ezra told his wife she could have a fine home if that was what she wanted and could pay for it. Eliza Jane commissioned 2 Architects from Tacoma, Farrell and Darmer to build her new home. They began building Meeker Mansion in 1897, it took three years to build and was finished in 1890. The Meeker's lived in the mansion for almost 20 years, until the death of Eliza Jane in 1909. After Eliza's passing, Ezra decided to leave the mansion.

The Meeker Mansion is listed with the National Register of Historic Sites. The objective of the Historical Society is to return and maintain the home to it's original condition. This has proved to be complicated since there are no known records of the house. The only information they have pertaining to the house are three letters written by Ezra Meeker describing the mansion.

Meeker Mansion shares it's history and offers a memorable experience to all who visit. Tour this beautiful estate, then enjoy a meal at one of the many great restaurants nearby.
