Head downtown: A quaint, old-world feel permeates downtown Syracuse. You'll find museums and an IMAX theatre nestled amongst boutiques, cafes and restaurants. While there, you must stop in at the famous Dinosaur Bar-b-que where the waitresses are cheeky and the generous portions of your favorite cookhouse classics are lip-smocking delicious!
Plan your trip to coincide with the New York State Fair. Big name performers, acres of exhibits, midway rides and games of skill characterize this grand yearly event. This year the Mohegan State Grandstand venue will host the GooGoo Dolls, Brooks & Dunn, Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick just to name a few.
If you're the type who views shopping as a sport, you'll have to check out the Carousel Center, a gorgeous venue with all the stores you could hope to find under one roof. Back to school shopping can be done all in one trip! H&M, Abercrombie, Designer Shoe Warehouse.. and much, much, much more.
Visit one of the Onondaga County parks for boating, fishing, hiking and camping, too. Gorgeous scenery and the serenity of unspoiled landscapes lend themselves perfectly to the rejuvenation all travelers seek during their vacation time. Pratt's Falls park is highlighted by a 137- foot, cascading waterfall. You'll want to spend extra time near this geological wonder, so bring a pic-nic basket.
Sportsfans will want to take in a game at the Carrier Dome. Most events at this 40,000 seat arena take place during the school year when the Syracuse Orangemen basketball, football and lacrosse teams tear up the turf. Wear the colors and get ready to cheer along with the energetic crowds!
With so much to see and do in Syracuse, it truly is the perfect destination for the whole family. Make sure to plan ahead, create an itinerary and book reservations ahead of time. You don't want to miss out on all that this charming place has to offer.
