Tourist Must-See Attractions in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a unique destination that offers many local attractions and activities for tourist. The year round hot sun makes Puerto Rico a perfect destination to travel on winter. The beaches, local food restaurants, festivals and museums are a great choice to visit. But you definitely can't leave Puerto Rico without visiting the most popular local attractions.

Camuy River Cave Park:

There is no doubt that one of the main attractions for tourist in Puerto Rico is the Historic Camuy Cave Park (Parque de las Cavernas de Camuy), an amazing network of caves and underground natural limestone channels. The Camuy Cave Park is one of the largest networks of caves in the world. There are only two other places in the world where you can find a cave system as big or impressive as the Camuy Cave Park and neither of them has a tropical underground river. This is definitely a most see for tourist that wants to travel to Puerto Rico's prehistoric past, which is engraved on the walls with an enigmatic collection of petroglyphs at the Cathedral cave. There are walking and trolley guided tours available where you can descend into a sinkhole lined with dense tropical vegetation sights. The admission fee is $10 for adults, for child (12 and under) $7, and for senior $5. Operation hours are from Tuesday to Sunday 8:30 am - 4:00pm.

El Yunque Rain Forest:

El Yunque Rain Forest is definitely a most see for the nature lover tourist. El Yunque Rain Forest is located in the municipalities of Río Grande, Naguabo, Luquillo, Ceiba, Canóvanas, Las Piedras, Fajardo, and Juncos at the northeastern side of Puerto Rico. El Yunque Rain Forest is one of the most studied and diverse forests in the world. The forest reserve of El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the national forest system of the United States. It offers diversity trails and walking tours to enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, trees, plants, and birds. There is no entrance fee to get to de forest but if you want a 1 hr guided tour you can get it for $5 for adults and $3 for children (5-12) and seniors from Wednesday- Sunday at 10:30a, 1:30p and 3:15. El Portal Visitors Center is open from 9:00am - 5:00pm. There is an entrance fee of $3 per adult, $1.50 for kids and seniors.

San Sebastián Street Party (Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián):

If you visit Puerto Rico on the third week of January you can't miss Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián. This feast, which enjoys great popularity, has been carried out for the past 40 years. You can participate in the parade of heads, which includes Puerto Rican folkloric characters, dancing around Old San Juan streets, followed by the audience that sings and dances to rhythm of the music. You can also enjoy musical events and craft fairs all with free admission.

El Morro San Juan Puerto Rico:

Fort San Felipe del Morro in San Juan is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Puerto Rico. El Morro, officially known as Fort San Felipe del Morro was originally built in the early 16th century, shortly after Spanish colonizers settled in San Juan and realized the vantage point of the promontory. Today, El Morro is one of the main attractions of the National Historic Site San Juan, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1983. El Morro is located in the Bay of San Juan an ideal position to protect the port and city from foreign invasions. Now you can enjoy a tour inside this spectacular historic museum for $3 fee for age 16 and older - children free. Operating hours are June thru November 9:00am to 5:00pm and December thru May 9:00am to 6:00pm.
