Tourist Tips for Disney-MGM Studios

Part 1

The Disney-MGM studios may be one of the smallest lands in the entire WDW property, but it also has some of the most popular attractions. Here are some things to help make the trip to the Disney-MGM studios fun.

Use the Fastpasses and single rider line. These two little pieces of the puzzle will save hours of waiting in line and riding more attractions throughout the day. The biggest attractions use Fastpass like, The Tower of Terror, and Rock'n'Roller Coaster. There are three other attractions and shows that support the Fastpass service. Star Tours, The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and finally the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. As you can see this park has the lowest amount of attractions using Fastpass. (Alongside Disney's Animal Kingdom) This will force crowds to stand in line, and cause Fastpasses to be exhausted faster. However there are ways to ride main attractions and not hit too many lines.

Here is a scenario to ride both The Tower of Terror, and Rock'n'Roller Coaster in the first hour of opening. When the rope drops, gates open whatever make your way down Sunset Boulevard very quickly. Go to Rock'n'Roller Coaster and get Fastpasses. Now go over to The Tower of Terror and ride it. By the time you get off you should be able to go ride Rock'n'Roller Coaster with a very minimal wait time. And now you have ridden the two most popular attractions in the first hour. Do be aware that this advice has also been posted by other people. This is the most effective way to see these attractions since they are right next to eachother. You need to be aware that speed is the greatest factor in this strategy. You will get Fastpasses and be able to ride The Tower of Terror. How long you have to wait in line and how long you have to wait to use your Fastpasses for Rock'n'Roller Coaster is up to you.

Once you have used this strategy to get the biggest rides out of the way you are free to do whatever you want. Usually if you have pulled this trick off in the first twenty to thirty minutes there is still a very light crowd at the attractions. Your best bet is to head over by Star Tours and Muppet Vision 3-D. These two attractions should be dead empty or have a minimal line. Go ahead and ride both. Now the choice is yours, I suggest going to see the Voyage of the Little Mermaid since the lines for that show can get long during the afternoon. After seeing that show go see The Great Movie Ride. By the time you have ridden and seen the attractions it should be about lunchtime. I suggest going to go see a show or ride another attraction. By the time you are done lunchtime should be over and I would go get some lunch and rest. The general crowd of people trying to get some food should be thinned out by this time.

The second big tip is plan out your day. You don't have to plan to the minute for each and every attraction, show and restroom break. But make a plan like the one up above. That way your entire party knows what the plans are. This also lets your party enjoy more attractions in the park, instead of wasting time trying to figure out what to do next. Another bonus for planning the day is that if someone were to get lost they would know where to look for the rest of the party. Planning a week or day ahead will save time inside the park and let your party ride more attractions overall during park hours.

Split the park into two days. Since this park is small and has very few attractions I would suggest going to this park early in the morning during two different days. This will allow you to see all the attractions and shows with no wait. Most people go to Tower and Coaster in the morning. So one day rush with the crowds for the two popular attractions and the other day, enjoy the other attractions at your own pace. And during the afternoon sessions go to the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for the rest of the day.

Another way to save time and money is bringing in your own water and snacks. The park discourages bringing in outside food but they say nothing about drinks. Take some frozen water bottles with you. Use the frozen water to keep snacks cool. When your party plans on eating and drinking the snacks should be cold and the water should be ready to drink. This will not only save the time of purchasing drinks but it will save you quite a few dollars.
