Tourist Tips for Disney-MGM Studios

Part 2

Jon Sugi
The Disney-MGM studios may be one of the smallest lands in the entire WDW property, but it also has some of the most popular attractions. Here are some things to help make the trip to the Disney-MGM studios fun.

Eat your meals at not "normal" hours. I know that is a really terrible way to word what I'm trying to say, so here is the example. People tend to eat lunch between noon and one o'clock, and dinner between six and seven o'clock. Knowing this use it to your advantage. Eat lunch and dinner early or later than those hours. This does two very cool things for your trip. The first is your meal experience. If you eat during "normal" hours the restaurant will be busy, crowded, loud and sometimes uncomfortable. This is especially true if you have kids and younger kids at that. When you eat during not "normal" hours the restaurant is less noisy, the service is usually better and it feels like a relaxing meal. Fighting for the attention of your kids and waiter/waitress is a stressful and unpleasant experience. The second thing that happens when you eat at different hours than the rest of the guests is that lines for attractions are shorter. People flood the restaurants for food, and leave the rides and shows. This allows you to get on the rides with less of a wait time. The easiest way to set your internal eating clock is to train your stomach a week or two before your trip. Start eating lunch at two o'clock and dinner at nine. Or eat earlier in the day, either way your body is trained for that time to eat. Then when you visit the parks you will be hungry at the "right" time of day.

This second tip combines your meal experience with resting techniques. When you go to the Disney-MGM studios you can see everything in a day. As long as you plan and prepare you can effectively ride and see everything in the park in a day. However your feet will want to take a break so whats the easiest way to do that without sacrificing precious time? Eat and rest at the same time. Disney-MGM has some great places to rest and eat at the same time. There are some quick service places to eat, but the majority of the restaurants there are sit down places. Before you visit pick a place you want to eat and make reservations. These are called Disney priority seating. Basically when you arrive at your scheduled time you will receive the next available table, booth, seat whatever. Call a month or two before you want to go and make reservations, then go sit, eat and relax. Enjoy the air conditioner and food. Maybe even get some dessert or coffee while sitting. Another great thing to do with a friend, spouse is go to the restaurant on a date. Just sit, talk and enjoy each other's company.

Another tip is specifically for Fantasmic. If you have a large party and want to see this show send a member to wait in the line. Switch out party members with each attraction or show visited. In the normal scenario there will be two or three people waiting while two or three are riding attractions. This allows the party to do what they please while still getting a decent seat for the show. I highly suggest using a strategy for Fan asmic, especially during the summer and holiday hours of park operation.
