"Tow to Go"....Budweiser And AAA Auto Club South Help Keep Tampa's Holiday Drunk Drivers Off the Road. Parts of Tennessee and Georgia Also Participate

Memmay Moore
Alcohol and New Year's Eve parties are inseparable fun and then it's time to go home. You have a big problem. Your designated driver has decided to have a few drinks herself and can no longer drive you home. You know you are in no condition to drive, and with extra police out there, just looking for drunk drivers, a DUI or worse is not worth the risk. Fortunately there is a solution to your dilemma.

AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser have teamed up to offer a free tow and ride home to anyone too tipsy to drive. The number to call is 1-800-AAA-HELP. Caller identities are kept confidential. You do not have to be a member of AAA Auto Club South to participate in the program. The program is available in Florida and parts of Georgia and Tennessee.

The purpose of the program is to protect both the drunk driver and the motoring public from avoidable car crashes. The service is provided to personal size cars only and only to the requesting individual. A bartender may call if a customer asks and needs to be towed. No reservations are allowed and the only service is to the individual's residence.

The "Tow to Go" program started in1998 at the suggestion of a tow truck driver. Tow truck drivers are the ones who go to accident scenes. They see what happens when people drive drunk. There is 100% cooperation every year from all of the tow truck fleets that service the Auto Club, a network of nearly 4000 tow truck drivers. Since its inception, nearly 10,000 impaired drivers have used the service. Budweiser has substantially funded the program every year. Their motto is "Driving Sober to Save a Life."

The "Tow to Go" service is also available during other holiday periods, besides Christmas and New Years. They are Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Halloween; and Thanksgiving through New Year's Day. Call 1-800-AAA-HELP.

This is a much needed service, I just hope that the people who have been drinking have enough good sense to take advantage of it . . . .

Memmay, this is a great idea, but too bad it is necessary because some people never learn. I've seen too many drunks in my day, but some still insist they are "fine" and need a good swift kick. I remember seeing at t-shirt that read: Instant AssHole...Just Add Alcohol!
