Toward and Away

Toward and away

On this island lived a fisherman who each morning, rain or shine, would go to sea in his boat and catch what fish he could. And each night he excitedly would tell his family of the tremendous fish he had almost caught. One day this routine was broken.

This fisherman had two sons of whom he was very proud. One was named Toward. And the other was named Away.

This day he took his sons fishing with him for the first time. That night when he returned, he was more excited than ever.' Lucy,' he told his wife, 'you should have seen the tremendous monster of a fish we saw today. It was five feet long. And it had little legs like a caterpillar. And crawled right up on the beach. But before I could do anything it grabbed Toward and swallowed him in one gulp.'

'Oh, that is terrible,' his wife said.' 'Oh, how awful! Oh, poor toward!'

'But that's only part of it,' he said holding his head. 'You should have seen the one that got away.'
