Towels to Storage: Four Bathroom Accessories for a New Look

Stephanie Dray
Bathrooms can be challenging to decorate. Especially since the bathroom is where you tend to hide all your hair accessories, cosmetics, and cleaning supplies. When people decorate, paint is usually the first thing they think of - it's easy to change the color of your bathroom, and in so doing, transform its look. Also, nothing looks quite as nice as a fresh clean coat of paint. But if you're not ready to make such a drastic change or put quite so much work into decorating your bathroom, there are other options. Here are four bathroom accessories that will change the look of your room:

1. Towels. If you're looking to make an inexpensive, yet versatile change, decorate your bathroom with towels. You can use crisp white towels to give your bathroom the appearance of a luxury spa. You can try towels with patterns or prints that go with a theme. For example, if you're going for a spring-garden look, you could try towels with a butterfly design. Give your bathroom a more elegant appearance with embroidered towels, or towels that have braided edges. And by installing a second towel bar, you can add visual interest to your bathroom for about two dollars. By using bathroom accessories like towels and towel bars, you can transform your bathroom without ever picking up a paint brush.

2. Decorative Switchplates. Unless you're a hardware store junkie, you may not even have known that bathroom accessories like decorative switchplates exist. In the world of bathroom accessories, decorative switchplates are surely one of the most unusual, but they can give your bathroom a different look. They come in different sizes, shapes, and themes. Some are kitschy, like the switchplates with cats on them. Other switchplates are formal, like the ones in antique brass. And if you're doing one wall all in mirror, there are even beveled mirror switchplates to fit right in. Whichever you choose, these bathroom accessories can make all the difference in achieving the look you want.

3. Shower Curtains. The best bathroom accessories are those that you can wash or change on a whim, and shower curtains fit the bill. Whether you're going for a certain theme in your bathroom, or just trying to set a mood, there are shower curtains for every style. Along with your towels, shower curtains will add the visual interest in a room, so choose carefully, and make sure it doesn't clash. If you're in a very creative mood, consider mounting two shower curtain rods, and pull one back with a tie-back like you would a curtain. This adds a luxurious feel to any bathroom.

4. Over The Toilet Storage. When it comes to bathroom accessories, storage can cost you up to, and a little over, a hundred bucks. But it's an investment in your bathroom you're unlikely to regret. You can go for inexpensive over the toilet space saver cabinets with open shelves that will help make a home for all your other bathroom accessories. Or you can go with an over the toilet storage cabinet that closes and neatly hides your clutter. This is one bathroom accessory that will add both storage and sophistication to your bathroom decor.

You have a lot of good ideas. Don't forget to maximize space to place towel bars vertically one over the other #1 higher and #2 right under it (allowing space for the towels to hangon #1 and not so low as to have towels touching the floor). Makes a nice impact if you have pretty towels and gives more storage too.
