Town Perk is very much into the holiday spirit. On my most recent visit with two of my friends, the restaurant staff was dressed in various Halloween costumes and a fall themed display adorned the small performing stage located in the first portion of the restaurant.
The front of the restaurant has two couches and a coffee table that has several magazines and newspapers out for patrons to read while enjoying a small meal or some coffee. The seating area extends towards the back of the restaurant and the coffee bar with menu is also located near the couch area. If you walk towards the back, there is a spiral staircase leading downstairs to an event/party room (which can seat up to 60 people) and restrooms. There is also about three or four tables for outdoor seating when the weather and season is appropriate.
I came to Town Perk with two of my friends on a recent Saturday afternoon. Upon being seated almost immediately, we looked over the menu. We all decided on fountain drinks at $1.25 each with free refills if needed. When we were ready to order, we all chose a different selection. I chose a turkey club sandwich on wheat toast for only $6.00. When you order the club sandwich, you can choose between turkey, tuna salad, ham, roast beef, or chicken salad.
All club sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato, bacon and mayonnaise. Fries are also served with the sandwiches, and you can substitute plain fries for the original sweet potato or eggplant fries. I have not tried, either, however.
My friend chose a newer item: the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. My other friend went with a classic and selected the chicken fingers and fries platter, priced at $7 and ordered barbecue sauce on the side.
My two friends got their food at the same time, but I had to wait a couple extra minutes for mine. One of the things I immediately noticed is that my friend who ordered the chicken fingers got almost a mountain of French fries! There were so many that we all agreed she'd need a box to take them home. The chicken cordon bleu sandwich tasted good, but must have been done heavily because my other friend would later complain of feeling a little bit of an upset stomach. However, this did not amount into anything serious so please don't let her experience scare you from eating here.
My club sandwich was done well, but I felt the toast could've been a little warmer. The fries had just enough crisp to them and were part of the reason we all filled up and could not even order dessert.
Although we did not order dessert, I have been to Town Perk in the past while considering it. If you are considering dessert, your waiter or waitress will bring a dessert tray to your table with all the options on it; then he or she will explain what everything is. All the tables also have a dessert menu for consideration.
One of the best desserts is S'mores for two. Your server will bring over a Bunsen burner type device along with the graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. You get to roast your own marshmallows right at the table!
Our total bill came to a little over $38, which is about average at similar restaurants where more than two people are eating together. We were able to come up with enough to pay the bill plus leave our waiter a $5 tip.
I enjoy the Town Perk and would continue to go again for the rest of my college time here. The intimate atmosphere, the friendly and efficient staff, and the prices are enough to gain many repeat customers, especially in a college town. This is always a great place for students to take their family members and friends who are visiting from other areas. If you happen to be in Bloomsburg, don't overlook this great downtown restaurant!
