Toxic Mental Waste Paper Land

Heather Dekin

Dumping contents into a metal trash can
Throwing free throws one by one
Shooting three pointers with rapid frequency
No crowds cheering after each three pointer
Only the ominous sounds of silence
Scared of when the imaginary accolades disappear
All that's left is a player without a team to support them
A lone wolf battling a non-existent opposing team
Waiting for the buzzer to go off
Be declared the undisputed champion
When in a surprise upset
The star's knee cracks under the weight of pressure
Performing under the intense spotlight scrutiny
Family and friend eyeing the games like vultures
Searching for their prey and only finding scraps
Everything imaginary vanishes once the buzz sounds
A trash can and twenty rolled up piece of paper remain
Spread all over the floor like cheap trinkets
That vaccum cleaners detest with a passion
Time to clean up this mess of a game
Looking for a new game to play afterwards
Goody
Maybe people will actually be there instead of mentally.
