Toxins on Your Food Table

Paul Cabrera
The foods that you buy and love may in fact contain poison. When you reach for those frozen meals, cookies, crackers, and baked goods, think that you may in fact be poisoning yourself. The deadly substance in these foods is called hydrogenated fat, also known as trans-fatty acids.

Trans-fatty acids have many harmful and potentially life-threatening effects:

- They increase fat retention rate and sugar usage

- They increase LDL known as the bad cholesterol,

- They decrease levels of HDL known as the good cholesterol.

- They also increase the feeling and sensitivity to pain.

As a sign of revolutionary times in nutrition, trans-fats are slowly beginning to appear on nutrition labels on more and more products. Still, no matter how minute the amount, remember it's still poison! Even if a food is labeled as low in trans fat do not purchase it. Even a trace amount of trans-fat can be harmed, more harmful than a much larger serving of saturated fats. For example, when the saturated fat rises there is a corresponding 12% increase in coronary heart disease. In comparison a small increase of trans-fats led to a 95% increase. So as a rule of thumb be wary of anything containing trans-fatty oils. Many popular foods that contain trans-fats are snacks, candy bars, cookies, baked goods, and other foods in the same category. Remember even a trace amount is poison to your heart. Always read the labels before you buy any food product which you are unsure of.
