Toy Story 3 Becomes Highest Grossing Animated Film of All Time

The Toy Story 3 box office is approaching $1 billion, making Toy Story 3 the highest grossing animated film of all time. It has been a really amazing run for Toy Story 3 at the box office, and its world box office numbers just passed $920 million this week. In the U.S., Toy Story 3 just hit $399.2 million on Friday night, setting up the film to pass that elusive $400 million threshold this weekend. According to Entertainment Weekly, that would make Toy Story 3 only the second Disney film to ever reach that number. The first Disney film to accomplish that feat was Shrek 2 back in 2004, which grossed $441.2 million in the U.S. Shrek 2 ended up grossing $919 million in its world box office numbers, putting it among the highest grossing films of all time.

The remarkable thing about Toy Story 3 in the domestic box office has been its staying-power in theaters. The film opened to $110 million at the box office, which is really good, and then kept earning as the weeks went by. Toy Story 3 has almost been in theaters for two months now, and will still pull in a couple million dollars this weekend in U.S. theaters, despite all of the competition out there. That could really bode well for DVD and Blu-Ray sales when the film hits store shelves in the holiday season. It's certain to be one of the top sellers, even with competition from films like Shrek 4 out there going up against it on the request list of kids around the country. The appeal of the film to adults will also work in its favor, and maybe it will battle for the top spot in most sales.

When it comes to the list of highest grossing films of all time, Toy Story 3 enters the week in eleventh place on that list. The film has a strong potential to pass Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (which mad $402.1 million in 2009) and Spider-Man (which made $403.7 million in 2002) before the run comes to an end. It would be tough for Toy Story 3 to catch the No. 8 film on the list, which is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with $423.3 million. Still, making it into the top 10 list of the highest grossing films ever is no small accomplishment. Some might write it off as a sign of how much 3D can help out a films box office, but people still have to go out and buy the tickets to create this much success.

Just fyi, Shrek is NOT disney, it's dreamworks so next time please get your facts straight... Toy story 3 really doesn't deserve this title, other disney movies in the past are way better...
