Toy Story 3 Now the Highest Grossing Animated Film of All Time

There's a New Sheriff in Town

Jason Gallagher
There is a new animated sheriff in town, and he goes by the name of Woody. Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story 3" has zoomed past "Shrek 2" to become the top animated grossing movie of all time with an astounding $920 million global box office, which leaves the Ogre green with envy with a $919.8 million haul, according to a Yahoo! Movies Reuters report. These toys have clearly come a long way. What a gross so close to a billion dollars means is that folks clearly enjoyed the movie, and are still enjoying the movie. Sadly though, it would seem there are no more adventures for Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of crew, at least not in the near future.

Of course, to anyone who has seen the flick realizes that although there was some closure, the door to another cartoon, err, film is still cracked open just a bit. In the meantime though, the vaunted entertainment giant will likely add another "Best Animated Feature Film Oscar" to their vast collection with the competition being a little on the thin side, and are perhaps an outside shot to be the first animated feature to take home the "Best Feature Film Oscar" as well. While there are certainly plenty of movies yet to be released in 2010, something will certainly have to shake up the multiplex to bring home a gross like "Toy Story 3", let alone get the attention of Academy Awards voters.

This is definitely a plus for Disney/Pixar being able to send such famous characters out in style. The Toy Story gang has a special place in the hearts of many children and adults (and children who have become adults over the course of the trilogy dating back to 1995), and now they have a place in the record books as well. As the movie may climb a few more notches before all is said and done, one has to wonder what the limit is for Woody and the crew as the movie seems to have some serious legs. All the same, the likely scenario says, "To infinity and beyond". Sorry, I could not resist.
