Marie M. Daniels
In January of 2010 there was a recall issued for some models of Toyota cars. Find out if your car is included in the Toyota recall list and exactly which Toyotas are recalled. Toyota issued a recall of some of their vehicles because the gas pedals were reportedly sticking. With the gas pedals sticking the recalled Toyota's could unintentionally accelerate. Find out more about what problems the sticky gas pedals did to prompt the Toyota recall and the halt in new Toyota sales for the same potential problem.

With the gas pedal problem the Toyota recall included over 4.5 million vehicles, which is causing the company millions. The sticky gas pedal problem started back in August of 2009 when there was a fatal crash that involved a Lexus made by Toyota and it was investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The results of that investigation found two problems with the Toyota dealing with the floor mat and the gas pedal of that specific Lexus car.

That fatal crash involving a police officer and his family prompted Toyota to issue a recall for floor mats. The 2009 Toyota floor mat recall included: the 2007 to 2010 Camry, 2005 to 2010 Avalon, the 2004 to 2009 Prius, the 2005 to 2010 Tacoma, and the 2007 to 2010 Tundra. These Lexus models were also included: the 2007 to 2010 ES 350, and the 2006 to 2010 IS 250 and IS 350. If you own one of those car models mentioned please immediately remove your driver's side floor mat and contact your local Toyota dealer.

The Toyota gas pedal recall includes some of the following models: Certain 2009-2010 RAV4, Certain 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, Certain 2007-2010 Camry, Certain 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2008-2010 Sequoia. The Camry hybrids and Highlander hybrids have not been included in the 2010 Toyota recall for sticky gas pedals. If you have a Toyota Camry, RAV 4, Corolla and Highlander vehicle that has a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) that begins with the letter "J" they are not affected.

Now that you know your Toyota vehicle is included in the gas pedal recall what should you do? If you notice any gas pedal sticking you should stop driving your car and contact your local Toyota dealership. If you feel that your Toyota's gas pedal is not sticking then Toyota themselves will start contacting the recall affected customers and schedule a time to bring in the recalled vehicle to get the gas pedal fix. Some Toyota customers will be notified of the fix as early as this week according to the Toyota website.

Checked with my 2009 Highlander - don't see how pedal could stick to the floor mat. Also my car is not in the recall.
Ok. It is safety concern - yes. Go to the dealer, get it fixed and still it is not any worse then any other makes.
Is is all comes down to, do you like Toyota ride or not?
Still, this is welcome to consumer as dealers no longer can tell you BS about their product quality. Sometimes (at Toyota) I thought that they think, it is them who is giving me a favor by selling it to me.
