Toyota Recalls Lexus Models for Safety Issues

Pam Gaulin
Each time there is a headline about a Toyota recall, my heart sinks a little. I click through and hope my 2005 Matrix AWD is not on the list. The most recent Toyota recall of close to 1.7 million vehicles announced today includes the Lexus IS and GS sedans in the U.S. Toyota issued a voluntary recall due to two fuel leak problems on the Lexus models. The recall is considered preemptive and is not due to any reported deaths or accidents.

The Lexus sedans named in the recall are the:

2006-07 Lexus GS300/350
2006-09 Lexus IS250
2006-early 2008 Lexus IS350

One recall involves the fuel pressure sensor installation on 245,000 vehicles while the other affects 1.3 million vehicles worldwide due to the fuel delivery pipe and a high pressure fuel pump check valve, according to Toyota.

My Toyota Lexus is Recalled: What to Do

You should receive a safety recall notification in the mail.

1. Check Lexus.com to find a dealer nearest you. According to Toyota, you will not have to pay for an inspection or gasket replacement.

2. Call to verify that they have the parts needed to replace any defective parts related to the recall before scheduling your appointment.

3. The dealer should re-torque the sensor if no leaks are present, according to Toyota.

4. If the vehicle is leaking, the dealer should replace the gasket line.

5. The recall should also prompt an inspection of the fuel line, which could crack and leak. This safety issue is affecting more cars sold worldwide, not in the U.S.

Consumers with questions or concerns should contact Lexus C at 1-800-25 LEXUS or 1-800-255-3987. Or visit the Lexus website recall page for updates on the recall. www.lexus.com/recall .

I always wanted but could never afford a Lexus, though I'm a Toyota customer of many years. Sad to see them recalled.
