Toys for Your Pet Parrot

Celin Childs
Toys are very important for your pet parrot. They help your parrot have good physical, emotional and behavioral adjustment in your home. Although you cannot replicate a parrot's natural home environment, it is important to understand that parrots scavenging for food make up 90 percent of a parrot's daily routine. Because you provide the food, your parrot must use that time doing other activities.

Toys help your parrot to stay focused, develop intellectually, and make decisions. Toys also provide your parrot with physical exercise and a way to release built up aggression when it comes around. That is why it is so important to give your parrot the toys it needs to stay healthy.

Toys are tools for parrots and other birds. If you sit and watch your pet, you may become amazed at the many different ways they use their toys. They can hang off of ropes upside down in order to get a few nibblets of bird seed, or they can turn an ordinary toy into a dinner table. It is quite amazing.

If you want your bird to have a long and healthy life, it is imperative that you provide them with several safe toys. The last thing you want for your feathered friend is to end up injured or tangled in a toy that is not fit for their environment. You should never use electrical cords, furniture, or other objects that can potentially harm your pet.

If your parrot can play by himself you will have a pleasurable friend indeed. People who don't provide enough toys for their friends can expect to be bitten more. Birds need the stimulation of the toy because the toy helps them to develop good social behaviors. Some birds may even begin to parent their toy by scolding and punishing it as well as loving, feeding, and taking care of it.

Climbing toys are excellent for parrots. They allow the parrot to exercise and have fun at the same time. Most parrots love to swing and they need a swing in their environment. Other great toys that provide your parrot with a climbing experience include, knotted ropes, natural ropes, ladders, branches, and chains.

Puzzle Toys are also great for parrots. These types of toys have to be taken apart in order to reach a reward such as a treat or a nut. Some of these puzzle toys are designed as little cages, some parrots will just chew straight through the bars just to get the prize inside. Other puzzle toys can be actual mind stimulating games. For instance a Chirp n Squawk Pack from http://www.birdsupplies.com/Interactive-Bird-Toys-s/88.htm will give your pet a wealth of stimulation and enrichment.

Food toys are awesome for parrots and also nutritious. Many of these food toys have food incorporated into them or made out of them. You can make a toy for your parrot out of a coconut. They will love it. But you have to be cautious using some food products such as cherry, peach, or avocado, they can be extremely toxic to your parrot.

Interactive toys can be so much fun for your feathered friend. You can find new computerized toys to give your feathered friend a wonderful new experience.

Here is a list of some great websites to find the perfect bird toys for your parrot.
