Chairman and CEO of Toys "R" Us, Inc., Gerald R. Storch is taking the safety of children all over the world into his own hands. Storch announced a new website supported by Toys "R" Us centered on safety and kids.

According to the press release, the CEO and father of five children, "understand[s] the concerns parents have about product safety." In an ongoing effort to revitalize the connection between parents and Toys "R" Us, a website will now be available at www.toysrus.com/safety to help parents better find toy recall and manufacturer information.

The website is an interactive database of recall information. Product recall listing are listed by manufacturer, product number, and toy name. Each toy is available for viewing to ensure parents match the proper product number with the appropriate toy.

According to the press release, Toys "R" Us is not stopping at the safety recall website. To further inform parents of relevant recall information, an email notification system of product recalls has been setup as well. The recall notices will be available in both English and Spanish.

For consumers who do not have access to the internet, Safety Boards displaying all current recall information, including, but not limited to recall notices, will be posted in all Toys "R" US stores nationwide.

Toys "R" Us has been financially taxed over the recent rash of toy recalls on some of the most popular toddler and children's toys the retail chain offers. Among the toys recalled are various Barbie accessories, Polly Pocket, various Fisher Price toys and Easy Bake Ovens. The safety website offered by Toys "R: US, is not limited to toy recalls. Parents and consumers will also find recall information on toddler teethers, child restraints and vinyl bibs.

In an attempt to regain the trust of toy consumers, Toys "R" Us is stepping into the recall spotlight and focusing its energies on parent notification and education.

For further information on toys recalls, consumers can visit www.toysrus.com/safety and / or www.recalls.gov for further information.

Very nicely researched and well written article. Although, I still maintain that it's not enough that Toys R Us is stepping up to the plate to insure product safety, we need government intervention to solve the problem. Interesting. I do want to comment though, that the picture is slightly misleading as LEGO products are safe. Click my avatar to see my article about the LEGO group. They are not made in China and are subject to strict quality control standards.

What I want is for Toys R Us OR SOMEBODY to go and actually consistently INSPECT where the toys are being made and how they are being made in China. I sell Discovery Toys and I will probably buy more of those since they are manufactured in the UNITED STATES!

I guess kids will have to go back to playing with Tupperware from the kitchen cabinet for a while. Thanks for the timely report.
