Tracfone's New Cheap Unlimited Prepaid Cell Phone Plans

Tracfone Has Some Aggressive New Cheap Unlimited Plans that Will Save You Money

Chris McCarthy
Tracfone is one of the most popular low-end prepaid wireless providers. The company is also the largest prepaid provider in the United States, with 12 million annual subscribers who keep coming back for more.

The wireless industry has undergone some big changes over the past year. Economic worries and changing business models have created an environment where consumers are no longer only looking at contract wireless plans, but see how they can save money and perhaps have a better experience with a pay as you go plan.

Cheap Unlimited Prepaid Plan from Boost Mobile

It started with Boost Mobile, which is owned by Sprint Nextel. At the beginning of the year, the Boost Mobile Monthly Unlimited prepaid cell phone plan was released and stunned some industry insiders, while confusing others. People were surprised at how cheap the plan was.

For $50, subscribers receive unlimited talk time, unlimited text messaging capability, unlimited web surfing, and unlimited data usage. That's a lot of "unlimited" stuff, which begs the question to how the company can afford to sustain itself while running this plan. However the company has done it, the plan has been a great thing for mobile customers.

Cheap Unlimited Prepaid Phone Plans from Tracfone/Straight Talk

Another prepaid cell phone plan that has reached a high level of popularity is Tracfone's new Straight Talk brand. Straight Talk costs $45, for which you receive unlimited talk time, unlimited text messages and 30 MB of data.

*Read more details about the Straight Talk Unlimited Plan.

This is quite aggressive and undercuts by five dollars the similar Boost Mobile plan. In addition, the Tracfone Straight Talk plan runs on the Verizon network, which gives it the added strength of a world class network. Boost's network is not so reliable.

For those looking to really save money on their cell phone plan, there is a second Straight Talk plan that is even cheaper. For $30, you receive 1,000 minutes of talk time, 1,000 text messages, and 30 MB of data usage and web surfing. This is a very competitive offering from this prepaid wireless provider.

In fact, when you add in the fact that this plan comes with no bills, no overage fees, and of course, no contract, it is a really attractive option.

Tracfone's ridiculously cheap prepaid cell phone plans from Straight Talk work on 30 day payment schedules. All you do is make a purchase of a phone that works with the program and pay either $30 or $45, then you have use of the phone for 30 days. It's as easy as that.

Since the plans are prepaid, there is no contract and no commitment. You have control over your phone usage month to month. Say you don't need service one month because you'll be leaving town. You won't have to pay a fee for that month, but you just won't receive phone service.

If I was writing this article a few months ago, I probably would have mentioned something about how Tracfone is really only a great option if you are a frugal cell phone user. In other words, if you use less than 200 minutes a month, definitely look into the wireless provider. But with these new unlimited plans, this is no longer true. Things have changed and the company now can provide value to a larger segment of the population.

Other Tracfone Prepaid Offers

If you are just starting out with a cell phone and are looking for a cheap and high quality plan, definitely have a look at what Tracfone has to offer. Maybe Straight Talk isn't the right plan for you. Maybe one of Tracfone's other offerings is better for your situation. One offer, which costs $19.99, comes with a refurbished Motorola w370 phone, Double Minutes for Life, and an additional 60 minutes of free talk time.

It's a very good deal if you are looking for good service that is reliable, affordable, and comes with a decent cell phone handset. Double Minutes for Life is a very interesting and money-saving add-on that Tracfone offers to its customers. It costs $29.99, but is often used as a "sweetener" or a "freebie" for some offers. It's a very cool program, which provides exactly what you would think it does. For every minute of talk time that you pay for, you get a free minute on top of it for as long as the phone lasts.

If you sign up with a regular Tracfone prepaid cell phone plan, it is highly recommended that you get Double Minutes for Life. It is one of the easiest ways to start saving money on your prepaid phone right out the gate. It just makes sense to get free minutes. Tracfone is known as a value cell phone provider, and as such does some very cool things for its subscribers.

As many Tracfone users will tell you, the company frequently releases Tracfone promotional codes that provide free minutes with a purchase. This is a way to reward its loyal customers, keep them excited about the product, and to attract new sign ups.

If you are looking for a cheap prepaid cell phone plan, I highly recommend doing some research and learning more about the Straight Talk Unlimited plans. These seem like incredible deals that may not be around forever. You will definitely get some bang for your buck with these prepaid plans. Everyone's cell phone usage, habits, and needs are different so it is difficult to definitively tell you that a plan is perfect for you. The more research you do and the more questions you ask, the better off you will be.

I love my Tracfone. I have had one for years. I have had two, the last one I bought cost me 20.00 and when I buy min. they always double. i use my Tracfone when I'm gone from the house, in town, out of town, at the walking track, but I never have it on at home, don't need it, I have a house phone. I can buy 60 min., I get 120 min. and that will last me 2-3 mos. It has never let me down. I only Have it for emergencies, I love it.

I didn't know you could get a TracFone plan that covers your entire family for $30/month. That sounds like a good deal.

  • TracFone Family Plan10/17/2010

Our family has the TracFone family plan...all 4 of us for only $30 a month. This make arranging afterschool pick up and dinner arrangements much easier.

    Angela,
Thanks for your input. That is a nice feature that Boost Mobile offers for continuing service. I haven't heard from many people who actually use the Boost Mobile Unlimited plan, but it looks like it is quite comprehensive and is useful for people who talk A LOT on their phones.

I use the Boost Mobile unlimited. It runs on the sprint Nextel Network, and even works in the hollow I live in while everyone else including my mother with a Tracfone, phones cease to work. I love the fact that if I can not afford my phone unlimited for a month all I do is add 10 and continue service.

I'm with Betty on this. Tracfone is great for the elderly as they normally do not require a lot of minutes. We bought granda a Tracfone plus pay for her service. The phone very basic which is perfect for her and the service will cost us roughly $120....for a year!!! Totally worth the peace of mind!

Tracfone/straight talk has been great for my mother. She is in her 70's and is not an active cell phone talk but she loves the comfort of knowing she has a cell phone if needed. For just $20 for an airtime card she got 60 mins worth of talk. Not only is my mother happy, I can breath a little easier knowing she has a reliable phone.

ALL I CAN SAY IS MAKE SURE U PAY UR BILL ON TIME BECAUSE THEY WILL GIVE UR NUMBER TO SOME ELSE AND I HAVE A BUSINESS WITH BUSINESS CARDS AND I LOST MY NUMBER AND MY BUISNESS CARDS ARE USELESS NOW THANKS STRAIGHT TALK . ONE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT ATT PREPAID THAT IS BETTER IS ATLEAST THEY HOLD ON TO UR NUMBER FOR 60 TO 90 DAYS THE BEAUTY OF A SIM CARD IF I WOULD OF KNOWN I WOULDNT GET MY MY NUMBER I WOULD OF NEVER CAME BACK

I had a Tracfone years ago and was extremely disappointed. No Caller ID (they said maybe my area didn't have it - Nashville, Tn.??? come on.) Expensive, as much as 50c/minute. Crappy system of the minutes being in the phone rather than on the network - lose your phone, lose your minutes...minutes mysteriously disappear overnight while phone is off. Extra cost double minutes didn't - a total gyp.
But now with the Straight Talk program I just might try them again, since the superb iwireless doesn't have coverage where I've just moved. (I'd rather have iwireless, but since I can't have it, Straight Talk just may fit my bill.)
As to TracFone being a bunch of liars (Fred James), ALL the cell phone companies are crooked, so we just have to get what we can from them and pay as little as we can manage.
"Stay away from Straight Talk!" How can ST, which is carried on the Verizon network, suddenly lose coverage in an area? Verizon has coverage where no other cellco does.

I am really glad that Tracfone came out with the Straight Talk plan. $45 a month for unlimited text and unlimited minutes is really a great deal. You can't beat it! As an out of state student, I am able to keep my costs down while enjoying long conversations with friends and family back at home. I will continue using this plan throughout my college career and hopefully after I graduate!
