Tracking Your Teens with GPS

S. B.
In today's society, it is very difficult to send your children out into the world knowing the dangers that may face them. However, it is a must that they live their lives, so you send them out anyway, praying daily for their safe return. But if there was a way to keep track of your kids' whereabouts in case of an emergency, would you take advantage of the opportunity? Well now you are able to with a number of GPS tracking devices on the market.

GPSNanny

GPSNanny is a company that specializes in providing GPS tracking devices to parents wanting to keep an eye on their kids (hence the name Nanny). Whether you want to use their products for your teens, tweens, or smaller children, they have products that you can purchase to do just that. The two products from GPSNanny that I will look at in this article are the WalkAbout and Teen Tracker. Though they are slightly different in their nature of tracking, they both do the job at hand - keeping your kids safe.

Walkabout - This product is about the size of a small closed flip phone and was meant to fit into your kids' bookbags, pockets or purses. Once they carry this GPS device with them, you can watch where they are traveling on a virtual map from your computer in real time. Also, on the map, you can create what is called a geo-fence that sets virtual boundaries for where your kids can travel. If they venture outside of your set boundaries, you will automatically be alerted via your mobile phone. Also, this small device comes with an emergency button that let's your child instantly alert you if he or she senses any danger.

Teen Tracker - The Teen Tracker is slightly different than the Walkabout in that your child cannot carry it around - instead it is to be plugged into the cigarette lighter, or attached to the battery of your car. As they drive around, you can see where they are driving and even how fast they are traveling. A few other features of these device include a remote door unlock system, auto security interface, and an emergency button, similar to the Walkabout.

Wherifone

Wherify is another company that markets GPS device for children and teens. One of their products that seems to be popular with parents is Wherifone. It was created to as a cell phone that can tell you where your children are, and it comes with a lot of features. For instance, it offers a parental control feature that lets you determine who your children can and cannot call. Also, it allows you to keep track of their whereabouts by placing an icon on a virtual map that you can watch from your PC. On this map, you can locate their position, and follow their travel in real time. If you can't be near your computer, it can provide periodic updates to your mobile phone. And like the other two GPS devices mentioned, the Wherifone comes with a panic button for additional security.

The next time you find yourself wishing that you could do more to keep an eye on your children, consider getting your hands on a GPS tracking device. It can not only help you in your effort to make sure they're safe, but also give them the assurance that you're always in their corner when they need you.
