Trader Joe's Peppermint Toothpaste has baking soda and fluoride in it. Most natural toothpaste do not have fluoride so I was a bit surprised this one does. I can go either way with fluoride. I don't mind it being in or not being in my toothpaste. I heard they also sell a non-fluoride version too but I didn't see it at the store I was at. The fluoride version was the only one they had there.
I was very surprised at my first use of the Trader Joe's $1.99 natural toothpaste. The paste is a bit grainy and a bit thicker than some toothpaste but it doesn't take away from its use. The bad thing I found is it takes a little more pushing to get the paste out of the tube when it is cold. I didn't think too much of it until the weather got colder and the paste started getting to where I needed two hands to push it out. Despite that small issue, after the first brushing my mouth felt clean and my teeth nice and smooth.
It has naturally hydrated silica in it which helps to whiten teeth. I did notice my teeth did whiten a bit. They didn't whiten to the extent a professional whitening would but it did whiten them probably about one shade. The peppermint flavor is flavored with peppermint oil and gives a nice blast of peppermint in your mouth, leaving it nice and fresh. The flavor is more of a real peppermint and not the sweet fake peppermint you get from the mainstream toothpaste brands.
I am glad ended up buying Trader Joe's Peppermint toothpaste. You can't beat the price and I believe it is comparable to the expensive natural toothpaste. I would definitely buy this toothpaste again. The only downfall is you can only get it at Trader Joe's which isn't local for most but at the price I think I may pick up a couple a a time to make sure I don't run out.
