Trader Joe's Premium Egg Nog Review

The Pen
Every holiday season I have to drink some eggnog at least once. I was really in the mood for it a couple of weeks ago so I bought some by Dean's that wasn't good at all and it had high fructose corn syrup in it. So when I saw Trader Joe's carried some I was excited to try it.

Taste of
Trader Joe's Premium Egg Nog

I will say that Trader Joe's Egg Nog tasted better than the Dean's brand , but I was still left disappointed. It is smooth but it's not all that rich. I wouldn't say it was exactly watery but it's not very thick. The taste wasn't everything I was hoping for but it was decent. It was sweet and tasted like vanilla but it was balanced out with a salty, eggy flavor that along with the spiciness of the nutmeg made this egg nog taste ok.

But then the aftertaste was awful. It was very chalky and completely ruined whatever flavor it had. Even though there's no artificial flavors, that chalkiness made the Premium Egg Nog taste very artificial. I'm guessing that the stabilizer made from the guar gum, carrageenan, and locust bean gum, completely killed the taste.

In the End...

I will not be buying The Trader Joe's Premium Egg Nog again. In my opinion it could've been much better if it stuck to fewer ingredients and lost those nasty thickeners. Drinking this honestly made me just want to make my own egg nog from now on because this stuff basically tasted like a egg nog flavored Pepto-Bismol milkshake. I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
