Traditional Apple Pie

2 cups flour, one stick of butter or ¼-cup veg. oil, with fork work butter into flour until crumbly, now add ice-cold water until you get workable dough, 1 tbs. water at a time. On a floured surface roll out crust with a rolling pen, place crust in a 9 in. pie pan set aside and makes your filling.

Filling: 8 to 10 apples peeled and sliced, place apples in a bowl, add 1 cup of sugar, ½ cup of brown sugar, 3 tbs. flour or cornstarch,1/4 cup of water, blend all ingredients until well blended, if you like raisins add some into your filling, now go to your top crust.

Top crust: you take your other ball of crust and roll it out on a floured surface, get a nice sharp knife to make cuts that will not be hung up or stick to the knife, you cut long ways take your strips of crust and put over top of pie you can go one way or interlock the strips together, or even make a new design, when top is ready, sprinkle with brown sugar and put a few small dabs of butter on your crust, helps make a pretty color to your crust and tastes so good.

This apple recipe can also make for a great cobbler just make a cobbler crust instead.

Cobbler crust for any cobbler: 2 cups self rising flour, if using reg. flour you will need a ½ tsp baking powder, I only use self rising because it is easier , not by much, but it works so well also, 1 stick of butter or ¼ cup veg.oil work the butter into the flour until crumbly, add a ½ cup brown sugar stir in well, add ice cold milk until dough is kind of sticky, not to sticky but not dry either, it should be where you can spoon it over the top of your filling, like a biscuit dough. Usually takes ½-cup cold milk.

Both the pie and the cobbler are great right out of the oven with some vanilla ice cream right on top of it , this is A- la- mode, it is very much a traditional way to eat apple pie.

Bake pie in oven at 350 for 45 min. or until done.
