Traditional College Versus Online College

More people are choosing online college courses instead of being in a traditional class room. There are good and bad sides to each college choice, but overall online courses are better for adults who have many things to balance in their everyday life.

In a traditional classroom, there are many disadvantages: class times, lectures, and no help offered from the professors. Adults have so many things to balance in their lives, adding specific times to be in class only makes things more difficult for many of the adults. Most colleges only offer classes during specific times and if an adult has to work, or needs a baby-sitter, it can be hard to work around the classroom schedules. Some professors at a traditional college will lecture the whole class time, some will walk into the room long enough to put a video in, and some will have quiet time in their classes. If you are struggling in a class, most professors will not help you if you ask. There are some professors that will help you to a fault, but I have had a couple that when I asked for help, told me to ask other students in their class for help. Then when I asked the other students, they responded with, " We don't know what's going on, either!"

In the online community, the classroom setting is completely different. The classes work around a person schedules, not the person having to work around a college's schedule. You had to work late? Is your baby-sitter sick? It's not a problem, you can log into your classroom at any time, from anywhere. There are not many lectures in the online community, but there is a lot of interaction between the students on the discussion posts. You get to have feedback from your fellow class-mates and you help teach each other. The best part though, is the fact you can contact your instructor, student advisor, or anyone else you need to contact, and they'll actually help you. When first starting the online community, the student advisors will walk you through the online classroom to make sure you understand what is expected of you to do and they're willing to answer any questions you might have, whether you think they're important or not. They don't just give you the line of " I'll have to get back to you," they actually give you an answer. You have so much support in the online community, because we're all here for the same reason, to better ourselves.

There are so many choices when it comes to getting an education, but the best choice is within the online community. There are a lot of negative things with a traditional college, but with the online colleges, they help you stay focused onto your main goals because they really want you to succeed.
