Traditional Scottish Halloween Song

Extended Version

Ross Williams
A traditional ditty for Halloween in Scotland is:

Hey-ho for Halloween!
All the witches to be seen,
Some are black, and some green,
Hey-ho for Halloween.

Having been asked to provide some traditional Scottish songs for Halloween, I remembered the above song from my childhood.

Whilst I remember it fondly, with the benefit of now being adult, it does seem somewhat short and so I have written an extended version (below).

Have fun!

Hey-ho for Halloween!
All the witches to be seen,
Some are black, and some green,
Hey-ho for Halloween.

Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho !
Witches on their brooms fly and go.
Flying high. Flying slow.
Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho.

Hey-ho for Halloween!
Watch out for witches mean,
With magic spells they'll turn you green.
Hey-ho for Halloween.

Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho !
Witches as black as a crow.
Witches smelly as your toe.
Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho.

Hey-ho for Halloween!
Magic spells odd, magic spells even,
Changing everything to unlucky thirteen.
Hey-ho for Halloween.

Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho !
Cast a spell that will shine and glow,
Keeping witches away and make them go.
Halloween, Halloween Hey-ho
