Traffic Cameras: The Importance of Why They Are There

Bandit
Traffic cameras can be seen mounted on a traffic light poles at major intersections across the world and can also be found mounted on tall poles or masts along surface roads. There are many reasons why traffic cameras are installed and there are imporance reasons why they are there in many of the major larger cities.

Traffic cameras are video cameras which keep an eye on the traffic on the streets and roads. Normally, these cameras are put along major roads such as highways, freeways and expressways, as well as arterial roads. They all stay connected with optical fibers which are buried either alongside a road and even underneath a road. A monitoring center receives live video at the actual time, and serves as a dispatch if there is an automobile accident or some other disruptive incident or safety issue. Commuters can go online to view frame by frame photo shots posted on websites every few minutes, and can then determine whether or not they need to find a different route to travel.

Traffic cameras play a major part for most of the more intelligent transportation systems. They are of great value to use in tunnels, becuause the safety equipment can be activated by remote which is based upon the incoming information being provided by the traffic cameras and other electronic sensors in the area.

Traffic cameras are not the same as road safety cameras, which are put at specific intersections to help Police Officers enforce all of the rules of the roadways and to catch red light runners. Road safety cameras only take a still shot photo of the back of a vehicle to get the lisence plate number. Road safety cameras use a much higher picture resolution when a trigger is activated, and traffic cameras are there only for observation of the flow of traffic and are constantly taking lower-resolution full-motion live videos.Traffic cameras are also used to help Ambulances make their way safely through all of the intersections.

Traffic Cameras are accessable online that allow the public to see real live traffic conditions going on throughout the day and night. Traffic cameras usually refresh themselves about every sixty seconds or so and can be viewed from most government websites.

They just put some in at an intersection in my city where a woman I work with got rear-ended with her kids in the car by someone blowing a read light. Good article!

We had red light cameras. But they have been unplugged here in Chillicohte, Ohio. We voted them out this past election. They were only supposed to monitor the red lights, not our speed, which made them illegal. IT was nice to see them go.

Thanks for this info. I didn't realize you could monitor traffic movement online.

I think they are a great idea. A lot of people are against them, but I think they should be everywhere.

We've been having so much controversy since traffic cameras were put up in my town. I can see both sides of the issue.
