Trafficland.com opened its web domain on September 10, 2001. This site had feeds from 32 cameras and was created to monitor the highways of Northern Virginia to make travel more efficient. The next day, a horrific event shook America, September 11 and luckily Trafficland.com was there to provide useful traffic information. The attacks on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon gave reason for many Americans to fear for their lives and seek to evacuate their cities. The newfound Trafficland.com gave many people the information they needed to decide which route of evacuation to take. The media was also able to use this reliable source to report to viewers about current traffic conditions. Trafficland.com met the needs of many people and has since provided reliable information about highways in six different main locations including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and America.
According to Trafficland.com, "TrafficLand works with local, state and federal government agencies and commercial enterprises to leverage existing video camera networks and repurpose these resources to unlock their full benefits". The website provides services and information for the general public to find out about traffic conditions from any device from their desktop to their web enabled phones, first responders to conduct "accident assessments", and commercial enterprises that desire live security feeds.
Now Trafficland.com offers live traffic information from all over the country. In recent news, Louisiana has increased the amount of coverage of hurricane evacuation routes. Trafficland.com has even developed a live traffic widget for all of us, Mac owners! Trafficland.com has been featured in news sources such as The Washington Post, Media Life Magazine, and Wall Street Online.
I sense that this site can definitely survive in the ever-growing Internet realm. The site provides crucial information to Americans and the general public worldwide. The fact that Trafficland.com provides live information to anyone with an Internet capable device is fantastic and can help traffic run more efficiently. The site already has expanded to providing traffic information to multiple other countries and has gained ties with many different government agencies, it only seems like this site is going to grow and become more popular.
