'Til I saw someone lose a close friend.
Their grief was immense as the news was delivered
And I watched in shocked silence
As each word was slowly absorbed.
I never knew the poor soul
Yet I felt some amount of grief as well.
It made me realize that tomorrow may be too late
To live, to love, to make amends
To make each of my dreams come true.
I kept all my emotions locked inside
Too afraid of being wrong or hurt
To let you know how I truly felt.
I pushed you away
Still friends we remain
Slowly going our separate ways.
Even now it may be too late
To tell you that in my heart you're much more
Than a simple friend who comes and goes
But more like a vital part of life
One I could never live without.
It's sad that it took a tragedy
For me to forget fickle nonsense
Such as pride and the opinions of others
And instead use my heart and not my eyes
To lead me through my life.

Post a CommentWell crafted. Perhaps the best than can be said is that grief somehow deepens our capacity to recognize and appreciate joy.... at best!
